Which brands suck, which brands don’t suck as much
Duralast
Raybestos
powerstop
centric
Cardon
etc.
I think I’ve got a bad piston in the GX in the rear caliper. Vibration, heat, a pull and burning up pads like mad. oe is $160 per, hoping to spend that on a pair.
Thoughts?

I would avoid ‘cardone’ as far as possible. Not familiar with powerstop.
Centric makes decent parts (sometimes) but of your list, I’d go with Raybestos.

A fair share of folks have had trouble with Cardone. I haven’t. This may come down to a matter of which of Cardone’s multiple sub- brands we’re using? I dunno.
I prefer to get remanufactured parts locally, because if something goes wrong, they can often have a replacement for me next-day. Of course this limits my brand selection, hence having gone with Cardone on more than one occasion. But it’s only recently that I’ve started paying attention to sub-brands, so my good experience with Cardone may be the result of the guy at the parts counter making sure to get me the “good stuff”. Or maybe it’s just luck.

I like Raybestos. But t heir product lines can get confusing sometimes . Service grade, professional grade, advanced technology... Looks like their calipers use a different system of nomenclature : “professional”, “premium ”, and “super premium”.

I threw Cardone calipers on the Subaru at the beginning of the year. Haven't had any issues and I definitely put them to work.

Just rebuild at home? It’s pretty simple to do.

Centric tends to do really good parts in their higher end stuff. Their reman calipers are usually solid. Raybestos or powerstop would be my next pick on your list. The D uralast and N apa type stuff usually depends on the “tier”. Much of it is re- branded from one of the others on your list , just depending on price point.
You might also visit a good, dedicated brake and chassis supply shop. I would imagine SLC has at least several to choose from, and most of those places will do will call sales to non-shops at jobber pricing. Beyond the benefit of not having to ship cores back, those places will often stock less common quality stuff like Nastra and other brands that don’t tend to be stocked by retail oriented parts houses and/or are less available for individual consumer purchase.

Personal experience :
Brand doesn’t matter, as I’ve gotten calipers from most of that list that were junk right out of the box.
Inspect the caliper yourself before buying it, regardless of which brand you buy.
Same goes for wheel bearings/hub assemblies.

Have used duralast on the LC too and one caliper piston went bad after a year but they had a lifetime warranty on them so replaced easy enough.
IH8mud really seems to like napa eclispe brand, never used them though.

Hammerhead, can this guy be given status so that he doesn’t have to be in the grey? He seems solid enough.
Thanks.
